Fort McCoy has been used as primary military training center since it was established in 1909. Fort McCoy is home to the headquarters of the NMCB-25 (Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Two-Five). It is also home to the 181st Infantry Brigrade and the Fort McCoy NCO Academy. It is located between Sparta and Tomah, Wisconsin.
Housing at Fort McCoy is divided into separate housing developments. Most of the government leased housing has waiting lists which vary anywhere from a few weeks to up to a year. Military personnel are encouraged to contact the Fort McCoy Family Housing Office to fill out an application (DD1746) in order to be placed on the waiting list. Temporary housing is also handled by the housing office.
